A Study on the Awareness and Performance of Physical Therapy College Major Students for Infection Control of Elderly Patients

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on infection control of elderly patients by comparing the awareness and performance of physical therapy majors students with clinical practice experience in managing elderly patients infection.

Methods : This study surveyed 536 physiotherapy college students in Gwangju, Korea. The frequency analysis was conducted on the general characteristics of the subjects. In addition, pearson's correlation analysis was conducted for the awareness and performance in clinical practice.

Results : The comparison between the awareness of the elderly patient infection management and the relationship between pre and post clinical practice showed a significant decrease afterwards. In performance, there was a significant decrease afterwards before and after clinical practice. There was a correlation between the awareness and performance of infection control in the elderly.

Conclusion : In this study, the awareness and performance of infection control of physiotherapy college major students decreased significantly after the clinical practice. These results will help prospective medical workers in the elderly to improve their awareness of infection management, which will help them to provide health care services in the future.
